President Lee Jae-myung met with ministerial-level representatives from African countries and regional organizations at the Blue House on Tuesday, reaffirming South Korea\u2019s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Africa across a wide range of sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a written briefing released by Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Communication Kang Yoo-jung, President Lee welcomed 20 ministerial-level participants who visited South Korea to attend the inaugural Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation included representatives from 18 African countries\u2014among them Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Rwanda, and Tunisia\u2014as well as officials from the African Union (AU) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Lee noted that he has placed special importance on enhancing relations with African nations since taking office. He expressed hope that the first Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting would serve as a catalyst for expanded high-level exchanges and broader cooperation in various fields, including collaboration in international organizations and elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSouth Korea and Africa share similar historical experiences,\u201d Lee said. \u201cBy working closely together, we can build a future of mutual growth and prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

African ministers and representatives thanked South Korea for its continued support in areas such as agriculture, water resource management, education, technology, e-government, and digital transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also highlighted South Korea\u2019s remarkable journey from war and poverty to economic development, describing it as a valuable source of inspiration and practical lessons for African countries pursuing sustainable growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants further expressed hopes for increased investment by Korean companies in Africa and deeper cooperation in key sectors including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The African representatives welcomed South Korea\u2019s decision to host the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting this year and its plan to convene the Korea-Africa Summit in 2029. They praised Seoul\u2019s growing diplomatic engagement with the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Lee responded by emphasizing the significance of the planned summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have high expectations for the 2029 Korea-Africa Summit,\u201d he said. \u201cI hope that regular summit meetings and continued foreign ministers\u2019 meetings will strengthen practical cooperation between Korea and Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also expressed his intention to visit African countries whenever opportunities arise before the summit, aiming to further deepen and expand bilateral partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
