“참정권 행사에 혼란과 불편 드린 점 거듭 사과”… 외부 전문가 중심 조사 착수
중앙선거관리위원회가 제9회 전국동시지방선거 과정에서 발생한 투표용지 부족 사태와 관련해 외부 전문가 중심의 진상규명위원회를 설치하고 원인 규명에 나서기로 했다.
중앙선관위는 4일 배포한 보도자료를 통해 “유권자들의 참정권 행사에 많은 혼란과 불편을 드린 점에 대해 거듭 사과드린다”고 밝혔다.
중앙선관위는 이날 새벽 열린 전체위원회 회의에서 이번 사태에 대한 진상 규명과 재발 방지 대책 마련을 위해 가능한 모든 노력을 기울이기로 결정했다고 설명했다.
이에 따라 선관위는 먼저 해당 투표소의 투표록 등을 분석하고, 투표관리관 및 사무원 진술을 확보해 당시 현장 상황을 확인할 계획이다.
또한 투표지 부족 사태의 원인과 책임 소재를 규명하기 위해 외부 전문가 위주로 구성된 진상규명위원회를 설치·운영하기로 했다.
선관위는 진상규명위원회 조사 결과를 토대로 문제점과 발생 원인, 책임 여부 등을 철저히 분석한 뒤 국민에게 공개할 방침이라고 밝혔다.
한편 중앙선관위는 서울 송파구 잠실7동 제2투표소에 보관 중인 투표함에 대해서도 개표를 위한 설득 작업을 진행하고 있다고 설명했다.
선관위는 서울시장과 송파구 선거구 당선인 확정을 위해 해당 투표함 개표가 필요하다고 판단하고 있으며, 현재 투표소에 남아 있는 시민들을 상대로 투표함 이송 필요성을 설명하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
중앙선관위는 투표함 이송이 가능해지는 즉시 송파구선관위 개표소인 올림픽공원 핸드볼경기장으로 해당 투표함을 옮겨 개표참관인 입회 아래 개표를 진행하고 당선인을 최종 확정할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

Election officials are reportedly meeting with citizens at the polling site to explain the need for the ballot boxes to be transferred.The NEC stated that once transportation becomes possible, the ballot boxes will be moved to the Songpa District counting center at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium, where votes will be counted in the presence of authorized election observers before final certification of the election results.
