더미디어저널리스트는 이날 현장을 방문한 한 시민과 전화 및 카카오톡을 통해 인터뷰를 진행하고, 현장에서 촬영된 사진을 제공받아 당시 상황을 확인했다.
“현장의 실제 모습을 직접 확인하고자 했다”
경기도 수원에 거주하는 해당 시민은 “뉴스와 영상으로 시위를 접했지만, 실제 현장의 분위기를 직접 확인하고자 올림픽공원을 찾았다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “젊은 층뿐만 아니라 고령층 참가자들도 다수 보였다”며 “각 출입구에서는 구호를 외치는 인원들이 있었고, 외곽에는 지원 인력도 배치되어 있었다. 일부 참가자들은 그늘에서 돗자리를 펴고 휴식을 취하는 등 전반적으로 비교적 자유로운 분위기가 형성되어 있었다”고 설명했다.
동일 공간에서 진행된 공연과 시위
이날 올림픽공원에서는 KSPO DOME에서 아이돌 공연이 동시에 진행되고 있었다.
공연 관람객들이 입장을 위해 줄을 서는 가운데, 인근에서는 시위 참가자들이 집회를 이어갔다. 공연 관람객과 시위 참가자들이 동일한 공간에서 각자의 목적에 따라 이동하는 모습이 현장에서 확인됐다.

현장에 게시된 손팻말과 구호에는 재선거 실시, 당일투표 수개표 도입, 선거관리위원회 책임 규명 등 다양한 요구가 포함되어 있었다.
선관위 “책임 통감… 재발 방지 대책 마련”
중앙선거관리위원회는 2026년 6월 5일 투표용지 부족 사태와 관련해 대국민 사과문을 발표하고 “국민께 불편을 끼치고 공정한 선거 관리에 대한 신뢰를 훼손한 점에 대해 깊이 사과드린다”며 책임을 통감한다고 밝혔다. 이어 개표 종료 이후 투표용지 부족의 원인과 문제점을 면밀히 분석해 재발 방지 대책을 마련하겠다고 덧붙였다.

The interviewee, a resident of Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, said, “I had seen the protests through news reports and online videos, but I wanted to experience the actual atmosphere firsthand, so I came to Olympic Park.”
The participant added, “There were many young people as well as older participants. At each entrance, people were chanting slogans, while support staff were positioned around the outer areas. Some participants were resting on picnic mats under the shade, creating what I felt was a relatively relaxed atmosphere overall.”
Protest and Concert Held in the Same Space
On the same day, a K-pop idol concert was also being held at KSPO DOME inside Olympic Park.
While concertgoers lined up to enter the venue, protesters continued their demonstration nearby. The scene showed concert attendees and protesters sharing the same public space while moving toward entirely different destinations.
What the Photos Showed
Photographs provided by the interviewee showed hundreds of protest signs attached along the railings inside Olympic Park.
The signs included messages such as “Re-election,” “Election-Day Voting,” “Hand Counting,” and “Stop the Steal.” South Korean national flags and U.S. flags were also visible.
The photographs also showed tents and picnic mats set up around the protest area, with some participants resting or walking around. Meanwhile, long lines of concertgoers could be seen waiting outside KSPO DOME.
Main Demands of the Protesters
The protest signs and chants called for a new election, hand counting of ballots on election day, and accountability from the National Election Commission, among other demands.

On June 5, 2026, the National Election Commission released a public apology regarding the ballot shortage that occurred on Election Day, stating, “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to voters and for undermining public confidence in the fairness of election administration,” while acknowledging its responsibility.
The NEC further said it would thoroughly investigate the causes of the ballot shortage after the completion of the vote count and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
