남아공전 앞둔 공식 기자회견… “경우의 수보다 승리에 집중”
한국 축구대표팀 홍명보 감독이 2026 FIFA 북중미 월드컵 조별리그 최종전을 앞두고 승리를 향한 의지를 밝혔다.
한국 대표팀은 25일 오전 10시(한국시간) 멕시코 몬테레이의 몬테레이 스타디움(에스타디오 BBVA)에서 남아프리카공화국과 조별리그 최종전을 치른다.
홍 감독은 24일(한국시간) 몬테레이에서 열린 공식 기자회견에서 “비겨도 된다고 생각하는 순간 어려움에 처할 수 있다”며 “비기겠다는 생각은 없다. 승리만 생각하고 있다”고 말했다.
한국은 조별리그 2차전까지 1승 1패를 기록 중이다. 체코를 2-1로 꺾었지만 멕시코에 0-1로 패했다. 남아공과의 최종전 결과에 따라 32강 진출 여부가 결정된다.

South Korea head coach Hong Myung-bo expressed his determination to pursue victory as the national team prepares for its final group-stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
South Korea will face South Africa at Monterrey Stadium (Estadio BBVA) in Monterrey, Mexico, at 10:00 a.m. KST on June 25.
Speaking at an official press conference on June 24 (KST), Hong stressed that focusing on a draw could be dangerous.
“The moment you start thinking a draw is enough, you may find yourself in difficulty,” Hong said. “We are not thinking about a draw. We are only thinking about winning.”
South Korea currently holds a 1-1 record in the group stage, having defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 before suffering a 0-1 loss to Mexico. The result against South Africa will determine whether the team advances to the Round of 32.
Hong reiterated that his players are focused on performance rather than qualification scenarios.
“We have talked about this within the team,” he said. “Our goal is to win the match.”
The Korean manager also suggested possible tactical adjustments, indicating that two or three positions in the starting lineup could change depending on the opponent and match strategy.
Hong described South Africa as a team with strong transitions and high work rate but emphasized that Korea intends to take the initiative through aggressive attacking play and forward movement.
He also dismissed suggestions that the tournament represents personal redemption following the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
“What matters is this team and this match,” Hong said. “Personal redemption is not important. Achieving our team’s objective is what matters.”
Defender Kim Min-jae, who attended the press conference alongside Hong, expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation.
“The atmosphere within the team is positive,” Kim said. “We have analyzed South Africa thoroughly and are ready to show our preparation on the pitch.”
A victory over South Africa would secure South Korea’s place in the knockout stage, while a draw would also be enough for the team to advance to the Round of 32 on its own terms.
